When it comes to planning for a trip, one of the more difficult aspects is figuring out what to pack. While it would be nice if you could pack our entire wardrobe, you're probably going to be limited to only a bag or two. This means you have to be careful when choosing what you bring, especially more bulky items -- like shoes. So if you're struggling to figure out which shoes to bring on your trip, ask yourself the following questions.
What's the Weather Going to Be Like?
One of the first things you should think about when deciding on which shoes to bring is the weather. If you're going to be wandering around the
597 square miles of Oahu, you probably don't need your winter boots. But you should always check the weather when you're packing for a trip. If it's going to be sunny the whole time, you could most likely do without any boots or heavier shoes, especially if you want to keep your feet cool. But if the
weather calls for rain or snow, you need to bring some warmer shoes. Making sure you have the right shoes for the weather will help keep you comfortable.
Which Activities Are You Going to Be Doing?
Another factor to consider is the kind of
activities you're going to be doing on your trip. If you're going to be doing a lot of hiking, walking around, and other excursions that require durable shoes, then make sure you plan accordingly -- bring a pair of hiking boots or shoes and maybe a pair of durable water shoes if you're going to be doing something like climbing waterfalls. Or if you're one of the
58 million people who go to the gym every year and plan to workout on your trip, make sure you bring your gym shoes. On the other hand, if you're going to an all-inclusive resort and don't plan on leaving the pool area, you could probably do with some nice sandals and maybe some dressier shoes for dinner. All in all, thinking about what you're going to be doing on your trip will help you decide which shoes you need.
Which Shoes Are Most Comfortable?
In the end, comfort should always be the main priority when choosing shoes. Whether you're planning on walking along the
3,000 miles of coastline in Ireland or just to the pool from your hotel room, there's nothing that can ruin a fun trip like sore feet. So choose shoes that will keep your feet a comfortable temperature, won't give you blisters, and aren't painful to walk in. In doing this, you can ensure
sore feet will be the last thing on your mind, allowing you to truly enjoy your trip.
It's important to bring the right shoes for your specific vacation. So consider the weather and the kind of activities you're doing to ensure you have the best shoes to keep you comfortable throughout the trip.
When it comes to long-term goals, most of us are content with forming a five-year plan. But popular shoe and apparel company Nike is looking a little further down the road by nearly a decade.
The athletic corporation has officially become the first sponsor for the 2028 Olympics, which is set to be held in Los Angeles. In partnership with the United States Olympic Committee established in January, Nike has snagged the highly desired spot to supply Olympic athletes with clothing, merchandise, and more.
As a sponsor for the colloquially dubbed LA28, Nike hopes to bring meet the
$2.5 billion sales target for domestic revenue.
"It's so important to get a big start coming out the gate, and a well-known brand coming out of the gate, because it will set the tempo going forward and really raise the expectations of the marketplace," notes Rob Prazmark, the doyen of American Olympic sponsorship sales.
This is the first time the United States has held the Summer Olympic event
since 1996. This huge marketing campaign can help Nike both on the field and online. While Google receives more than
63,000 searches per second, Nike's association with blockbuster events like the Olympics will boost its ecommerce revenue across the globe. But this isn't the first time Nike has engaged with sponsorships for domestic sporting events.
The shoe and apparel company already has long-term sponsorship deals established with the MLB and the NFL that are set to run through 2030.
Though the exact details of Nike's new deal with the Olympics have not yet been revealed, there are a few facts we know so far.
First, it's expected that Nike will supply the majority of the Olympic apparel and outfits for the American athletes partaking in the event. Nike will also likely cover any fan merchandise and even supply the apparel for volunteers working at the event.
Sources claim that Nike is already working on a custom logo design for LA28 with the help of the committee.
Second, there are whisperings that Nike might also help the Olympics fund local sports youth programs throughout Los Angeles. With more than
25 million kids playing soccer across the globe, this popular sport has created numerous fields and teams throughout the LA area. Should Nike get involved with youth sports in LA, they could help supply children with uniforms and impact the quality of local athletic facilities.
Nike is reportedly valuable for the Olympics because of its ties to young athletes who are culturally relevant, two characteristics the LA28 event hopes to replicate.
"We believe Nike's innovation engine is just ramping up as they have already announced an entirely new running platform for 2019, as well as the further rollout of the adaptive technology beyond basketball," reports B. Riley after performing its 2019 athletic survey.
The survey also reported that Nike shoes has maintained its
number one spots in the running category, the basketball category, and the casual footwear category among consumers.
But though Nike has ramped up in popularity among young people, it also maintained its popularity among older folks. It's said that the happiest retirees are those who perform
three to four activities each day, including athletic activities.
This positive view of the Nike brand is just one of the reasons it was an attractive fit for the LA28 sponsorship.
As Nike and the USOC smooth out wrinkles in the contract there's also a chance for Nike to sponsor Olympic events for the United States
through 2032. Currently, rumors claim the sponsorship deal could cost more than $200 million.

Well-known shoe company DSW recently announced that its name will change to Designer Brands Inc. following the announcement of a
3-year growth plan. This new plan developed as a result of DSW's acquisition of the Camuto Group of Vince Camuto shoes.
But it was more than just the acquisition of Camuto Group; the chain also revealed that market shares were down by 13%, far below analysts' expectations for the fiscal year.
As such, DSW -- which stood for Designer Shoe Warehouse -- hopes to make a number of changes in their stores, including changes to inventory management, the products being sold, and expanding their services.
"Over the next three years and beyond, we will leverage our integrated enterprise to continue delivering differentiated products and experiences while significantly expanding our gross margin by bringing the production of our private brands in-house through our industry-leading Camuto Group and increasing the sales penetration of all of our produced brands across our retail channels," explained chief executive officer Roger Rawlins.
In the 2018 fiscal year, DSW only sold $285 million in their exclusive brands. With the help of Camuto Group, these sales are expected to boost to $725 million in sales by 2021. Reports claim that consumers often make purchases directly from brands after DSW serves as an entry point for these companies.
This change will affect more than
1,000 operating stores throughout the United States. Changing the signage alone is a risky endeavor since
79% of Americans will remember a business by its sign. But the company is confident this change will yield positive results in accordance with its goals.
One of the primary goals in the company's 3-year plan include growing their own products and pivot away selling solely external designer brands. The company also hopes to increase market penetration online and expand their selection of kids shoes in order to target families.
Of course, this isn't the first time DSW has restructured aspects of their business, but this is perhaps the most intense pivot the company has seen so far.
Last year, DSW restructured its customer reward program based on customer feedback. As such, consumers who signed up for the program existed in
one of three tiers, whereas the previous system only had two. It also gave consumers the ability to give birthday rewards to friends and even donate shoes to DSW's partner company Soles for Souls. For each pair of shoes donated, the company would give 50 points to a customer's account. These points later turn into coupons and other rewards that the customer can use for online and in-store purchases.
It's estimated that more than
14.3 million tons of donated goods will help families throughout the world.
DSW, now Designer Brands, hopes to continue expanding on its rewards program for consumers, creating accessible footwear at an affordable price.
"With DSW's world-class omni-channel capabilities and loyal customer base, combined with Camuto Group's leading design and sourcing capabilities and The Shoe Company's powerful last-mile solution, Designer Brands has a strong platform to grow and lead the footwear market," said Rawlins.
For investors, DSW has adopted a new ticker symbol, reading DBI. This change was approved by the New York Stock Exchange as of April 2, 2019.
Swedish footwear company Icebug isn't one to let climate change worsen on their watch. Since they were
founded in 2001, Icebug has manufactured outdoor footwear with sustainability in mind. Over the past year, their hard work paid off: Icebug has officially achieved the United Nations Climate Neutral Now Initiative.
This achievement has enabled Icebug to become the world's first climate-positive outdoor footwear company.
The business has always relied on eco-friendly practices in mind. But their dedication to sustainability inspired the company to become climate-positive within a year.
"When we made the decision, we plunged into the unknown," claims CEO David Ekelund. "We didn't know if it would cost 20 cents or 20 euros per shoe, but we felt we had to take action. Our prior actions towards emission reduction certainly helped speed up the process, but we want other companies to know that becoming climate positive was easier than we thought."
The company was able to achieve this by limiting greenhouse gas emissions as a whole and compensating for any remaining emissions through the purchase of CERs. To stay on the safe side, Icebug purchased 30% more CERs than they have in the past to offset the
3,637 tons of greenhouse gas they produced from March 2018 to February 2019.
CERs are known as United Nations-certified emission reduction points. By investing in CERs, a company is able to produce more greenhouse gases since CERs are used to limit greenhouse gas production in other areas. The idea is that a company will achieve carbon neutrality by buying CERs to match greenhouse gas production.
In the case of Icebug, the number of CERs they purchased negated their greenhouse gas emissions entirely. But that isn't all: Icebug has also challenged other companies to achieve climate-positive status.
"Simply offsetting is not a free card to continue business as usual. We want the maximum effect, and that can only be achieved if others follow suit," notes Ekelund.
And it isn't just climate change that's driving businesses to change their practices. Now, more than ever, American consumers want to invest in companies with eco-friendly initiatives in mind.
In fact, a recent Business Insider survey revealed that
38% of young couples would consider the impact that their offspring would have on the environment before having children. It makes sense why younger people would want to invest in climate-positive companies and initiatives.
Even further, more than
52% of respondents for a recent landscaping survey wished they had more green spaces in their cities. Solar energy production has also been on the rise; experts claim solar energy has grown by
20% each year over the last 15 years alone. Now that Icebug has become a climate-positive company, consumers can now literally walk the walk instead of just talk the talk that they've held on to for so many years.
More than 2,000 business in the United States have signed onto the Paris Agreement despite Trump's withdrawal so far, but Icebug's achievement has left big shoes to fill.
