Being the sneaker-head and shoe-geek that I am, I hate when it rains or snows in NY.  I mean who wants to walk around all day indoors in rain boots or snow boots.  The duck boot is a plausible option if nine times out of ten the styles didn't make me look like I should be hunting geese in a marshland somewhere.  This is why I really dig the Grenson Spike Suck Boot.  The cool look of a duck boot, in premium leather, leather-lined and with rolled laces all without looking like you were expecting the theme of the day to be precipitation.  This will look particularly cool with a shrunken trench or abbreviated balmacaan.  Available now in a limited run at EndClothing.
